Fullerton is home to a variety of parks that provide the perfect playgrounds, sports facilities, and open spaces for kids to run, jump, and play. Whether your little ones love climbing, swinging, or playing team sports, here’s a roundup of the top parks in Fullerton that cater to active kids.

Fullerton Arboretum

1. Craig Regional Park

One of Fullerton's most expansive parks, Craig Regional Park offers ample space for kids to enjoy a range of activities. The park features several playgrounds, sports fields, and even a lake where families can fish or paddle around. The extensive walking trails make it ideal for a family stroll or bike ride. Kids can run around the large grassy areas or join a game of soccer or baseball with friends.

Why It’s Great for Active Kids: Craig Regional Park’s diverse facilities encourage physical activity, from playground equipment for younger children to sports fields for older kids.

2. Fullerton Arboretum

One of my family's all time favorite places to go in all seasons is is the Fullerton Arboretum, located on the campus of Calstate Fullerton. It's full of trails, a HUGE variety of plants that are well-marked for those of us who like to learn about the habitats, and although it's on a college campus there are enough twists and turns to the trails that make my very active kids feel like they are out wandering in the wilderness.

Why it's Great for Active Kids: It's got tons of trails so the kids get lots of mileage, and it also feels contained enough to let them wander a little ahead, giving them a sense of space and freedom.

3. Hillcrest Park

Hillcrest Park is a hidden gem that combines beautiful scenery with excellent play facilities. The park features multiple playgrounds, picnic areas, and open spaces where kids can play tag or kick a ball. The hillside offers a small walking trail that provides a fun and challenging environment for active children. Plus, the park's famous duck pond is a great spot to feed the ducks after some active play.

Why It’s Great for Active Kids: The variety of play structures and open areas allows for imaginative games and physical activities, while the scenic views keep it exciting.

4. Bastanchury Park

Bastanchury Park is a smaller, community-focused park that offers a safe and inviting atmosphere for active play. The park features a playground with climbing structures and swings, as well as plenty of open green space for running around or playing games like frisbee or soccer. The shaded picnic areas make it easy for families to spend the whole day enjoying the outdoors. Be wary of this park during soccer season, though - parking can be really, really difficult during those days!

Why It’s Great for Active Kids: The combination of playground equipment and open space encourages kids to be active while also allowing for relaxation and socializing with family and friends.

4. Fullerton Sports Complex aka My Home Away From Home

Trust me when I say I spend half my life at this park. Designed with active play in mind, the Fullerton Sports Complex is a hub for sports enthusiasts. The complex boasts baseball fields, soccer fields, and basketball courts, making it a perfect spot for kids who love organized sports. Additionally, the large grassy areas provide plenty of room for running, playing games, and having fun with friends.

Why It’s Great for Active Kids: My kids love that there are fields, and a playground, and ALSO the hills. If I stand at a high point, I can watch them without them feeling like they're being watched. They love that sense of freedom!

5. Ralph B. Clark Park

Clark Park has been a go-to for our family since I was a little kid! It's one of the larger parks in the area, has several baseball fields, tennis courts, and rivers and lakes running through it. It's got a bunch of playgrounds scattered throughout the park, and some very neat interpretive programming available! My family especially loves to host our big, themed birthday parties there - they have great picnic tables and shelters set up for parties.

Why It’s Great for Active Kids: The variety of playgrounds, facilities and fields provides multiple avenues for kids to stay active and engaged.

Fullerton is packed with parks that cater to active kids, offering a variety of play structures, sports fields, and natural environments to explore. Whether your child prefers organized sports, casual games, or simply running around, these parks provide the perfect backdrop for outdoor fun.
